I love the cardinal family that lives in the shrub by my front porch. For 7 years now, they've showed up every year without fail to torture the dogs by flitting around on the deck and bump around the cobwebs on the sliding glass doors in search of tasty bug morsels. Frustrating early in the morning when I'm trying to sleep, but good entertainment the rest of the day.

I'm a bobo!?

Just picked up Bobo's in Paradise last night, and couldn't put it down. I pretty much read straight through it, seeing myself in the good things and the bad. Some parts were pretty embarassing ("travel snob? no way, it's just what I love to do"), others uplifting ("finally, a way to describe the dichotomy within myself").

It sure gives me a lot to think about. I'm currently going through what may be the most miserable two weeks of my life so far, and I think maybe the Bobo book shows me some insights into why. One quote particularly gets me: "The life of perpetual choice is the life of perpetual longing as you are prodded by the inextinguishable desire to try the next new thing". Boy, that sucks. Another quote: "The Bobos are enslaved by their insatiable desire for freedom and diversity". Ouch.
